Fashion Style Tips: Are You Making Getting Dressed Harder Than It Needs to Be?
Let’s be honest: getting dressed should not feel like a daily negotiation with your closet, and yet, somehow, we stand in front of a wardrobe full of clothes and still feel like we have absolutely nothing to wear!
I’ve been there. You’ve probably been there too.
The problem with this is that you rarely need more clothes, it’s that you’re making fashion or should I say styling harder than it needs to be. Between trends, outfit inspiration, changing seasons, and that one pair of jeans that used to fit perfectly, it’s easy to lose sight of what actually makes you feel good.
That’s why today I’m sharing a few fashion style tips on styling so that you can look and feel more intentional while also being fashionable!
One of the biggest fashion traps I see is people doing to much and the look gets lost, they look uncomfortable, or the clothes are wearing them- making them look weathered and/or sloppy. While I don’t subscribe to you shouldn't wear that because you’re to “insert whatever word here”. I do subscribe to feeling good in what you wear at ALL times!
Here’s the thing: your personal style doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s, it’ just needs to look like you are comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing.
I want you to consider something “what is the intention of the look?
Do you want comfort, do you want, sexy, do you want to feel chic, playful or sporty?
Intention is everything even when it comes to fashion. When you consider what it is you want to feel it’s easier to start form there. Next is how can you create the look with minimal effort and pieces to get the feeling you want. Sometimes the simpler you go with the look the more impactful the look is. You also need to consider your hair, your makeup, your nails. This is all the difference between just wearing clothes and creating a personal style for yourself.
Here’s something else I want you to consider-how are you currently feeling. I come from the teaching you don’t have to look like what you’ve been through. On some of my worst days, my post painful days I’ve gotten up and put myself together in a way where nobody knew how I was feeling. On these particular days I received so many compliments. These compliments put me in a great mood and boosted my self-esteem. This caused me to want to look good more often and truly transformed my mental well being. Those types of experiences can really transform you and push you closer to the person you want to become particularly if you’re on a healing journey.
Build Outfits Around What You Actually Love
My next tip to look at the pieces that you instinctively reach for. You don’t need a closet overflowing with options, you need pieces that work together so I want you to begin noticing what you naturally pick up or are drawn to.
If it’s a relaxed trousers, a simple tops, gold jewelry, or a great blazer then YES you’ve got some great staple pieces that can mix and match but if not then you might want to consider incorporating these items into your wardrobe.
Because once you understand your go-to pieces, getting dressed becomes much easier. Instead of creating an entirely new outfit every morning, you’re simply mixing and matching things you already know you love.
That sounds much less exhausting, and the better you get a mix and matching the more looks you’ll create because you know how these pieces look on you. That will help you save alot of time!
Here’s a fashion formula for you
These are simply combinations that I know works well together
T
hink:
Jeans + simple top + blazer + sneakers
Trousers + fitted top + statement accessories
Dress + jacket + boots
Skirt + oversized sweater + simple shoes
You can change the colors, textures, and accessories depending on your mood, but the basic structure stays the same.
Accessories For the Win!
Sometimes an outfit feels boring because it’s missing that final little something, That’s where accessories come in. I have a pair of signature gold earrings, 3 pair of sunglasses, a nice leather belt, a structured bag, and a beautiful necklace stack- these accessories literally take my look from clothes I’m wearing to a look I’ve put together- it completely change the feel of a simple outfit.
The goal isn’t to look like you tried incredibly hard, it’s always to look like you naturally pulled it together.
One thing I highly recommend is that you stop Saving Your Favorite Clothes
We buy something beautiful and then decide we’ll wear it “when there’s somewhere special to go.”
Meanwhile, months pass, and it’s still in the closet waiting for the perfect occasion. Wear the outfit, carry the nice bag, put on the earrings!
You don’t need a special outing to enjoy the things you already own, sometimes the ordinary Tuesday is exactly when you need a little extra joy!
Your Closet Should Support Your Life
This might be the most important of these fashion style tips:Have you ever heard the phrase dress for the job you want?! I believe in that wholehearlty! Dress for the life you want! When you do this it puts you in that energy, it’s shifts your mindset, you begin showing up like the person you truly believe you are and eventually you truly become HER!
The Bottom Line is
Getting dressed doesn’t need to become another thing on your never-ending to-do list.
Forget trying to recreate every outfit you see online, forget buying something just because everyone else is wearing it and start paying attention to what makes you feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely yourself.
The best wardrobe is not always the big one, it’s the one that makes getting dressed feel easy
Here’s a few questions I want you to ask yourself the next time you go in your closet:
How can I improve my personal style?
Start by identifying the colors, silhouettes, and pieces you naturally love wearing. Build from there rather than chasing every trend. Following practical fashion style tips can also help you discover which outfit combinations work best for your lifestyle.
How many clothes do I really need?
There’s no magic number. Focus on having versatile pieces you actually wear and enjoy.
How do I make a basic outfit look better?
Try adding one thoughtful accessory, layering a jacket, or changing your shoes. Small details can make a big difference.
Should I follow fashion trends?
Only if you genuinely like them. Trends can be inspiration, but they don’t have to define your personal style. The most useful fashion style tips are the ones that help you adapt trends to your own personality rather than simply copying them.
