Mindful Stretching in Los Angeles: A Practice for Coming Back to Yourself
If you've been searching for Mindful Stretch Classes in Los Angeles, maybe you're looking for more than a place to stretch.
Maybe you're craving a little space to slow down, breathe, move your body, and reconnect with yourself.
Because sometimes we don't need another thing to accomplish, we need a moment to be.
I know I'm not the only one who has days when my mind is already ten steps ahead, there's something to do, someone to call, another message to answer. A responsibility waiting.
Before you know it, you've spent the entire day moving—but haven't really checked in with yourself.
This is where mindful movement can become more than exercise, it can become a practice that reminds you:
“I am here”
“My body is here”
“My breath is here”
“I deserve to be present for my own life”
Your Body May Be Asking You to Slow Down
We tend to think we need to do more when we're stressed, overwhelmed, or disconnected but sometimes the answer is the opposite. Sometimes we need to stop doing and simply be.
On the newly launched Living Lite podcast, I spoke with Natasha Maxwell of The Maxwell Method about this very idea. Sometimes we’re just doing all the things and we haven’t given things that we’re working on or ourselves the chance to simply be. Our bodies are constantly giving us information, the question is:
Are we quiet enough to hear our bodies.
Take a moment right now to:
Drop your shoulders
Unclench your jaw
Notice your hands
Notice your breath
Notice how you're sitting or standing
Without changing anything, simply notice what's happening in your body.
That's mindfulness.
And that is where mindful stretching begins.
Stretching mindfully isn't about Forcing or Resisting
It's about paying attention to what is happening while you move.
You might notice your breathing.
You might notice tension you've been carrying in your shoulders or hips.
You might realize you're holding your breath.
You might notice that you're pushing yourself because you feel like you should be able to go farther.
And then you have a choice.
You can soften.
You can breathe.
You can modify.
You can back off.
Or you can stay exactly where you are.
The Mindful Stretch Method brings together intentional movement, mindfulness, body awareness, mobility, and stress reduction in a way that allows you to move with your body- not against it.
You don't have to come in already flexible.
You don't have to be an experienced yogi.
You don't have to prove anything.
You simply have to show up.
Ready to move differently?
If your body has been asking for more space, more movement, more ease, or simply a moment to breathe, I'd love to guide you.
